Spanning healthcare, aviation, housing, logistics and transportation, the developments represent billions of dollars in investment and signal long-term growth for the region.

Courtesy: Photo by Scott Blake on Unsplash

Among the most significant projects is a new Lee Health hospital now under construction in Fort Myers. With an estimated cost of $824 million, the facility will replace the aging Lee Memorial Hospital and is scheduled to open by fall 2028. When operational, the hospital will include 236 private patient rooms, expandable to 260 beds, along with a medical office complex, ambulatory surgery center and a child development center designed to support employees.

At Southwest Florida International Airport, a major terminal expansion is underway following the completion of a key construction milestone. The project will add 14 new gates, a new TSA security checkpoint and expanded concessions. Airport officials expect construction to wrap up by December 2027, significantly increasing passenger capacity and improving traveler experience as the region continues to attract residents and visitors.

Cape Coral is also seeing a major public investment with the redevelopment of the Cape Coral Yacht Club. City Council has approved a $22.7 million contract for the first major construction phase. The full rebuild—estimated at nearly $197.5 million—will include a new community center and parking garage. The city opted for a full teardown and reconstruction after Hurricane Ian caused extensive damage to the original structure in 2022.

Courtesy: Photo by Yury Kim on Pexels

Large-scale residential and commercial growth is taking shape east of Interstate 75 with Kingston, a sprawling master-planned community developed by Cameratta Companies. Covering nearly 7,000 acres, Kingston is expected to feature approximately 10,000 homes, condos and villas at full buildout. Plans also call for about 700,000 square feet of commercial space, making it one of the largest developments ever proposed in the region.

On the industrial side, Amazon is constructing a new robotics fulfillment center at 10631 State Road 82 in Fort Myers. The more than 650,000-square-foot facility will handle smaller customer items and represents Amazon’s eighth robotics fulfillment center in Florida—and its first in Lee County. The project further cements Southwest Florida’s growing role in logistics and e-commerce infrastructure.

Transportation improvements are also underway, with Collier County building its first-ever diverging diamond interchange at I-75 and Pine Ridge Road. The $27.5 million project is designed to reduce congestion, improve traffic safety and support future growth. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2027, with motorists encountering nighttime lane closures and shifting traffic patterns during the build.

Together, these six projects illustrate how Southwest Florida is evolving into a more connected, resilient and economically diverse region. From healthcare and housing to transportation and logistics, the developments are reshaping daily life while positioning the area for continued growth in the years ahead.

Originally reported by Andrew WestRicardo Rolón, Fort Myers News-Press & Naples Daily News.

Southwest Florida’s skyline and infrastructure are undergoing a dramatic transformation as six massive projects advance across Fort Myers,…

[14
209,211,210
0":"post-85563","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cape-coral","8":"tag-cape-coral","9":"tag-cape-coral-headlines","10":"tag-cape-coral-news
["GET
