{"id":85799,"date":"2025-12-16T21:17:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T21:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/85799\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T21:17:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T21:17:07","slug":"muslim-advocacy-group-sues-desantis-after-he-labels-them-foreign-terrorists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/85799\/","title":{"rendered":"Muslim advocacy group sues DeSantis after he labels them &#8216;foreign terrorists&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"2010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/cair-lawyer-scaled.jpg\" class=\"attachment-250674 size-250674 wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" large=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOmar Saleh of CAIR-Florida \/\/ Chris Young, WMNF News, 12\/16\/2025<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tListen:<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations, as well as the national CAIR, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Governor Ron DeSantis after he issued an executive order labelling the group a terrorist organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Akeel &amp; Valentine, CAIR Legal Defense Fund, the Muslim Legal Fund of America and the Southern Poverty Law Center announced they filed a federal lawsuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims that DeSantis exceeded his legal authority and violated free speech and due process rights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Megan Amer is the policy director at CAIR Florida and spoke during a press conference in Tampa today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit is about holding Governor Ron DeSantis accountable for his actions that violate the US Constitution, endangered the civil liberties of every single American, and harmed Florida communities by using the power of government to not only discriminate, but to silence us,\u201d Amer said.<\/p>\n<p>Omar Saleh is an attorney at CAIR Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Governor DeSantis issues this executive order, it just doesn\u2019t flow through the air.
