{"id":86234,"date":"2025-12-17T04:01:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T04:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/86234\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T04:01:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T04:01:18","slug":"drone-deliveries-are-headed-to-central-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/86234\/","title":{"rendered":"Drone deliveries are headed to Central Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 Drone deliveries are coming to Central Florida, offering a glimpse at how technology could change the way people shop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Walmart and drone delivery company Wing demonstrated the new technology Tuesday at Orlando City Hall, showing residents how packages could soon be delivered from the sky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou have just witnessed the first official drone delivery in the city of Orlando this morning,\u201d Mayor Buddy Dyer said. \u201cSo you can mark that down in your calendars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Last week, Clermont approved zoning changes to allow Walmart to launch a drone delivery hub. Tuesday\u2019s demonstration in Orlando offered a preview of what that hub could make possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The drones, which weigh about 11 pounds and can carry up to 2 pounds, are designed for small, everyday items, and it can deliver them right to your front door in about 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The drones can fly up to 60 mph, cruising 150 feet above the ground before dropping packages safely at customers\u2019 feet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe have FAA approvals. We are safe. That is our number one priority. And we\u2019re here just to try to make their lives a little bit better,\u201d said Jessie Polle-Strang with Wing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Experts say public education about drone safety is critical. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2024\/06\/27\/florida-man-accused-of-shooting-walmart-delivery-drone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2024\/06\/27\/florida-man-accused-of-shooting-walmart-delivery-drone\/\">Last year, a man in Clermont was arrested for shooting down a Walmart drone<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWhen you shoot a drone out of the sky, the federal government sees that the same as shooting an aircraft\u2026 you\u2019re endangering people and property on the ground,\u201d drone expert Andrew Kobza said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Could drone deliveries become the future of retail? <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt could. It certainly could be.
