\n\t\t\t\t\t\tOne person is confirmed dead after crashing their SUV into a canal in the George Town neighborhood of Fort Myers on Monday night.According to family members, 72-year-old Diane Boone of Cape Coral died. They say she had just bought the SUV and may have gotten lost trying to find her way home Monday night.The SUV ended up upside down near the canal entrance off the Caloosahatchee River just north of the Midpoint Bridge.The crash happened around 8 p.m. The Fort Myers Police Department confirmed Tuesday morning that the victim was transported to the hospital but later died. FMPD said that a medical episode did not cause the crash.The crash happened near a canal at the end of a residential street in the Georgetown neighborhood, just north of the Midpoint Memorial Bridge. Boone\u2019s SUV rolled into the water and landed upside down. Investigators confirmed she did not suffer a medical episode before the crash.On Tuesday morning, Boone\u2019s family returned to the site, quietly gathering her belongings from the dirt. Her coworkers at Winn-Dixie say she was full of joy, and never missed a game of bingo.\u201cShe was always smiling. If you ever needed someone to talk to, she was there,\u201d said Emily Rosario, who worked alongside Boone. “It’s really heartbreaking. Everyone was sad when they heard about it because everyone was really friends with her.”Neighbors believe she simply didn’t see the water in the dark.
