Hidden under the verdant embrace of Coconut Grove\u2019s famous flora is a timeless home that brings Gilded Age grandeur into the 21st century. The 104-year-old home has just re-entered the market and will, without doubt, have HGTV nerds dazed.<\/p>\n

The Spanish colonial-style home sits on an idyllic 21,000-square-foot estate surrounded by a fence and a tree line so dense that you might forget you\u2019re surrounded by other homes and not some tropical wilderness. The six-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom home located at 3700 Hibiscus St.<\/a> is listed for $12.5 million.<\/p>\n

If the architecture looks familiar, it may be because onlookers recognize the designer\u2019s handiwork in other Miami structures. Legendary Miami architect Richard Kiehnel, the mind behind the 1927-built Coconut Grove Playhouse<\/a>, designed the Hibiscus Street home in 1921. A German immigrant who moved to Miami in the early 20th century, Kiehnel rose to prominence after designing El Jardin<\/a>, a Mediterranean revival-style home also located in Coconut Grove, in 1918.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s exterior is elegant in its simplicity. Its clean lines are complemented by inviting arches and an almost-mosaic roof \u2014 which might interrupt eye-soothing symmetry if the elements weren\u2019t designed so harmoniously. The old-world exterior, however, opens into rooms rife with modern influence. But as the threshold seems to transport you a century forward, the home\u2019s interior reflects the trappings of that very same understated opulence.<\/p>\n

The primary bedroom features dual walk-in closets bigger than some one-bedroom apartments<\/a>, an original claw-foot tub, and a two-person shower. The home is listed by Jessica and Jason Adams from the luxury real estate firm Douglas Elliman. Jessica renovated the home and added a new hurricane-ready red roof, she told Realtor.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
