A holiday tradition that spans decades in Cape Coral and epitomizes the holiday season in Florida hits the water this weekend.<\/p>\n
The annual Holiday Boat-a-Long sets sail from Four Freedoms Park this Saturday, with a slate of festive events taking place at the park beginning at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Attendees and spectators can take in the glow of lights on a plethora of vessels, as they float through Cape canals right before Christmas Day.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Holiday Boat-a-Long is a truly one-of-a-kind tradition that highlights what makes Cape Coral special \u2014 our expansive canal system and strong boating culture,\u201d said Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Mike Massoglia. \u201cFew communities across the country can host a holiday parade on the water, especially in December. It\u2019s a signature Cape Coral experience that brings neighbors together and adds something truly memorable to the holiday season.\u201d<\/p>\n
This free, family-friendly event features stage entertainment, local food trucks, crafts, and a visit from Santa Claus. The boat parade will begin at 7 p.m., and \u201cErnest Saves Christmas\u201d will be played on a giant inflatable screen immediately following the parade. City officials encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the festivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cFour Freedoms Park offers much more than just a boat parade,\u201d Massoglia said. \u201cStarting in the late afternoon, the park transforms into a community celebration with live entertainment, food trucks, holiday music, kids\u2019 activities, and a visit from Santa Claus.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is truly an event that can only be put on in certain places around the country such as Florida. And Cape Coral does it in style.<\/p>\n
\u201cParticipating boaters go all out, decorating their vessels with colorful lights, holiday themes, and creative displays,\u201d Massoglia said. \u201cAs the sun sets, the glowing boats move through the canals, creating a beautiful display that reflects off the water and really brings the holiday spirit to life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Individuals also can watch as the boats line up in Bimini Basin for the parade, which first passes by the Four Freedom Park\u2019s beach before heading down various canals in South Cape Coral.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year\u2019s parade will include around 50 boats, showcasing the diversity of Cape Coral\u2019s boating community,\u201d Massoglia said. \u201cFour Freedoms Park is the best place to experience the event, where spectators can watch the boats travel through Bimini Basin while also enjoying live entertainment, food trucks, and local vendors.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for families and friends to gather, enjoy the season together, and create lasting memories,\u201d Massoglia said. \u201cThe evening wraps up with a free movie in the park, making it an easy and festive night out for all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those interested in having their boat in the parade, can register with Sea Tow by calling 239-945-4820. There is no formal deadline to register a boat, but participation is accepted on an \u201cuntil full\u201d basis. Boaters must register through Sea Tow and spots are filled until parade capacity is reached. Early registration has been encouraged.<\/p>\n
