After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Suncoast, Westwood<\/a> was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-56 victory over the Port St. Lucie Jaguars<\/a>. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they’ve met, the home team has come away the winner.<\/p>\n

Leading Westwood to victory were Oscar ‘OJ’ Joseph<\/a> and Edwin ‘Flash’ Gibson<\/a>. Joseph shot 47% from the field on his way to 18 points and seven boards, while Gibson posted eight points in addition to six assists and four steals. Those six assists gave Gibson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keith ‘4K’ Seme<\/a>, who had seven points.<\/p>\n

Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Port St. Lucie only pulled down five offensive rebounds.<\/p>\n

When it comes to explaining why Port St. Lucie lost, don’t look at Daniel Alexis<\/a>. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-10 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Alexis has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he’s played. Illisha Johnson<\/a> also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.<\/p>\n

Westwood’s record now sits at 6-2. As for Port St. Lucie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, Westwood and Port St. Lucie will both be playing Tradition Prep the next time they take the court. The Jaguars will head out to face the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n
