Miami Hurricanes basketball sophomore Marcus Allen will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the program announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarcus has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and has begun chemotherapy treatment this week,\u201d the Allen family said in a statement, according to a Miami news release<\/a>. \u201cWe want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during an extremely difficult time for our family. We thank God for his continued Grace, Mercy and Favor. We wait in anticipation for the miracle healing to take place. We are standing on FAITH.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen, a 6-foot-7 guard\/forward, has appeared in eight games for the Hurricanes this season. The Miami native averaged 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game.<\/p>\n

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is the eighth-most commonly diagnosed cancer, with about 80,000 new cases in 2024, according to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Allen family launched a GoFundMe<\/a> \u201cto directly support treatment, travel and living expenses for Marcus and the Allen Family,\u201d the fundraiser said. The GoFundMe has raised more than $4,200 of its $50,000 goal since being opened on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarcus is an incredible person and teammate, and we will do everything we can to support him and his amazing family during this difficult time,\u201d Hurricanes head coach Jai Lucas said in the release. \u201cMarcus brings toughness and selflessness to our locker room every day and those same qualities will help him defeat this disease. Our entire program will continue to support Marcus in any way that we can as he focuses on his health.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen transferred to Miami after his freshman season at Missouri, where he averaged 9.2 minutes in 26 games played. The Miami native was ranked as the No. 74 recruit in the ESPN 100<\/a> for the Class of 2024, according to his bio. He averaged 22.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game as a senior, leading Miami Norland to the 2024 5A state championship. He was also named to the 2024 Allen Iverson Classic All-American game.<\/p>\n

Prior to Miami Norland, Allen played his junior season at AZ Compass Prep in Massachusetts, leading the Dragons to the GEICO National Championship game.<\/p>\n
