BRUNSWICK, Ga. \u2013 A Brunswick Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge resigned Thursday, more than a week after he was arrested and accused of drunk driving outside of a Jacksonville strip club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been an honor and privilege to serve the 5 County Brunswick Judicial Circuit,\u201d Robert \u201cBert\u201d Guy Jr. wrote in a letter obtained by News4JAX and sent to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. \u201cI appreciate my remarkable staff and Courthouse personnel and the attorneys and their zealous advocacy for their clients.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kemp responded to the letter and accepted the resignation the same day. <\/p>\n

According to an arrest report obtained by News4JAX, Guy, 48, was driving a black Mercedes E300 when he backed up and hit a parked truck in the parking lot of Wacko\u2019s Gentlemen\u2019s Club around 2 a.m. on Oct. 7.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told police that Guy appeared to be \u201chighly intoxicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Staff of Wacko\u2019s said they escorted Guy back inside the club after the incident and told the police that Guy offered to hand over his car keys and phone to them.<\/p>\n

The driver of the truck told police he tried to exchange information with Guy, but the judge refused to provide it and tried to offer him $500 to settle the damages.<\/p>\n

An officer who interviewed Guy said he had red, glassy, and watery eyes and slurred speech, and appeared to be confused when asked questions. Guy told police he could not remember if he was driving.<\/p>\n

Guy then did field sobriety exercises and almost fell, the report said, but refused breath tests at the Duval County Jail.<\/p>\n

He was booked on charges of driving under the influence and property damage and later released on $3,000 bond, jail records showed.<\/p>\n

News4JAX tried to request the JSO body camera from the incident, but the request was denied this week due to the ongoing investigation. <\/p>\n

According to the Brunswick News<\/a>, Guy served as the president of the Georgia Council of Superior Court Judges. He began his term in that role on May 1.<\/p>\n

Guy was elected to the bench in 2016 and served as a judge in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, which includes Glynn, Camden, Wayne, Appling and Jeff Davis counties, since 2017.<\/p>\n
