The farm’s owner says the horses have no place to graze and get exercise<\/p>\n
The adjustment has meant extra expenses and canceled therapy riding trips for kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are used to being out twelve hours a day,\u201d says owner Pam Rogan of her horses. \u201cThey are getting cabin fever just like people do.\u201d<\/p>\n
The entire property was flooded due to the downpours from a recent storm.<\/p>\n
Rogan said the area has already seen heavy rain every day for a month. For days, the one road in and out wasn\u2019t accessible by car or truck.<\/p>\n
Now much of the water still stands, and she said it\u2019s a muddy mess.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of our riders are in wheelchairs and walkers, so it\u2019s impossible to get through,” Rogan said. “So it\u2019s affecting us not being able to hold riding sessions.”<\/p>\n
She said that\u2019s $600-$700 a session not coming in when they must cancel.<\/p>\n
With the horses being confined to the stable, Rogan said they are paying a lot more for hay since they can\u2019t graze.<\/p>\n
They are going through bedding, and there\u2019s a chore people might not think of.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlus, being in their stalls produces more manure, which means more manure pickups, and that\u2019s costly,\u201d Rogan said.<\/p>\n
