TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Kearney Center hosted a memorial ceremony for those who have lost their lives while experiencing homelessness. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is real important that we do it on the longest night of the year, and it\u2019s symbolic of how dangerous our cold temperatures are,\u201d Sonya Wilson, Kearney Center CEO, said. <\/p>\n
Organizers said they put this together every year, not just to honor our fallen neighbors but to show support and emphasize the need for community-wide compassion and love for everyone. <\/p>\n

Wilson said the danger that unsheltered neighbors face in harsh weather conditions and daily puts them at risk every day, and she hopes that this ceremony will shed light on that. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo those who are unsheltered understand the potential impacts of being unsheltered,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
There was a presentation of remembrance, food and reflection from loved ones and friends. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey recognize that there wasn\u2019t a proper burial or memorial, so there is no closure and their friends and neighbors here at the Kearney Center and throughout the community deserve to have time of mourning and celebration,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
