Despite verbally agreeing to a deal and completing a medical with Orlando City, Paraguay international goalkeeper Carlos Coronel seems poised to head to Brazil, sources briefed on the deal tell\u00a0The Athletic.<\/p>\n
Coronel agreed to terms and completed his medical to sign as a free agent with Orlando City last week<\/a>, but he and his agents have since gone radio silent on Orlando, sources say. Instead, Coronel has an offer from Brazilian club S\u00e3o Paulo and is reportedly set to take that, despite the prior agreement with Orlando, which has quickly turned to alternative signings, sources add. The goalkeeper market has moved quickly around MLS, with Sean Johnson joining D.C. United<\/a>, Drake Callender heading to Minnesota United<\/a> and Dayne St. Clair leaving Minnesota<\/a> for MLS champion Inter Miami.<\/p>\n Orlando is in the market for a new goalkeeper after Peru international Pedro Gallese\u2019s contract was not extended and he left on a free transfer, reportedly signing with Colombian club Deportivo Cali.<\/p>\n Coronel, 28, is a free agent after his contract with the New York Red Bulls expired. He made 180 appearances for RBNY, an anchor for the club\u2019s playoff run to reach MLS Cup last winter, where\u00a0it fell to the LA Galaxy. He made 31 MLS appearances during the 2025 season.<\/p>\n The Brazil-born Paraguayan international has nine caps for his country, starting the first six matches in World Cup qualifying.
