TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – In a Florida A&M Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday morning that took less than ten minutes, Quinn Gray officially became the next head football coach of the Rattlers by unanimous approval.<\/p>\n
\u201cThink about when that has happened in FAMU\u2019s history!\u201d laughed Vaughn Wilson, who played football for the Rattlers. \u201cA Board of Trustees meeting and everyone agreed in seven minutes!\u201d<\/p>\n
The excitement of Gray\u2019s return home could be felt across Rattler Nation Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouldn\u2019t be happier as a fan base,\u201d said former football player Lorenzo Wilson. \u201cSomeone that understands the temperament of our University and what we require to be a successful program.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just know what type of character he has,\u201d added Tyrone McGriff, who also suited up for the Rattlers. \u201cHe\u2019s a man of extremely high character, and even higher football IQ, which is extremely important in keeping the fan base happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Something Gray did as a player. He won two MEAC titles as a quarterback, a national semifinal appearance in the FCS playoffs, and now the hope is his football IQ translates to success for this football team.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe understands what that expectation is,\u201d said Vaughn. \u201cHe has the ability that he\u2019s gained from coaching high school, and of course his last stop at Albany State to understand how to build a program back to a place where all the Rattler fans will be proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cQuinn has done some things on the football field that no other quarterback had ever done for us,\u201d added Lorenzo. \u201cHis life has molded him to take this job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Orange and green or not, that\u2019s what makes him different.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot to diminish any our our alumni, but he\u2019s just the best man for the job in my opinion,\u201d said McGriff. \u201cEven if he went to Coastal Carolina, he would still be the best man for the job.\u201d<\/p>\n
The biggest thing that all three of those guys said has to happen next is support. They all agree that without the fan bases support, coach can\u2019t reach his full potential with this program.
