A man allegedly from Alabama stabbed a woman to death at a bookstore in Florida on Monday night, CBS12 reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The victim at the Barnes & Noble in Palm Beach Gardens was apparently stabbed in the back without any provocation, police said.<\/p>\n

The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said the attack happened about 7:53 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the bookstore at 11380 Legacy Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing, and at the scene, began lifesaving efforts for the victim, identified as Rita B. Loncharich, 65, of Stuart, Fla.<\/p>\n

She was rushed to a local hospital by Palm Beach Gardens Fire and Rescue, but later died from her wound, after a knife to the back.<\/p>\n

Antonio Roderick Moore, 40, was charged.<\/p>\n

CBS 12 interviewed the victim\u2019s husband at their home, and he said police told him the alleged attacker is a homeless person from Alabama who is mentally ill and only been in Florida a week and had been living outdoors.<\/p>\n

The husband of the victim said his wife called him on her cell phone and told him she had just been stabbed.<\/p>\n

The following is from an affidavit from police: \u201cAntiono has been in Palm Beach Gardens for about a week, coming from Georgia by bus. Antonio went to Barnes and Noble with his red and blue bags with him. While in the store Antonio was charging his phone inside the store. Antonio willfully admitted to stabbing a woman in the back inside Barnes and Noble and running out of the store.<\/p>\n

Antonio stated there was no prior interaction with Rita, or motive as to why he stabbed Rita in the back. Antonio stated there was an internal build up that led to his fight or flight response kicking in with Rita being the closest person inside the store. Antonio took the fixed blade knife he had inside his jacket pocket and gtabbed Rita in the back. Antonio heard Rita say, \u201cHe stabbed me\u201d and seemed to be in shock of the attack.” <\/p>\n

An employee at the Palm Beach County Detention Center, where Moore is being held without bond on a charge of murder first-degree (premeditated), confirmed that Moore is listed as being from Alabama. <\/p>\n

Alabama court records show that Antonio Roderick Moore, with the same date of birth and drivers license number as the man being held in the Palm Beach attack, was indicted in 2024 on second-degree criminal mischief in Dallas County Alabama related to a fire set outside a credit union. <\/p>\n

The trial in that case is set for May of 2026.<\/p>\n
