Holiday cheer fills MIA as officials project record Christmas travel, minimal delays <\/p>\n
MIAMI \u2014 Travelers were in good spirits at Miami International Airport on Christmas Day. <\/p>\n
MIA officials said they expect to see a record 3.3 million passengers from December 18th through next week, January 5th. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have family up in North Carolina, so we decided we were going to go to up and visit my grandpa,\u201d said Fort Lauderdale resident Gustavo Perez.<\/p>\n
Laura Liucci, from Italy, said she and a friend were enjoying had a longer-than-expected stop in Miami. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here from Italy. Three days in Miami and then we\u2019re moving on to the Bahamas,\u201d Liucci said. <\/p>\n
The airport was decked out in holiday decorations, as were some travelers. <\/p>\n
But Transportation Security Administration officials want people to avoid certain festive clothing. <\/p>\n
TSA recently posted on social media that \u201c\u2026body scanners don\u2019t love sparkles. We don\u2019t want to dull your holiday shine but we don\u2019t recommend wearing your sparkly holiday sweater to the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n
Predicted snowstorms in the midwest and northeast, as well as and flooding in California, could pose problems for some air travelers nationwide. <\/p>\n
But as of Thursday afternoon at MIA and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, delays and cancellations were minimal.<\/p>\n
