State inspections found flies on pizza boxes and a pan of cookies \u2014 as well as one sitting on an apple pie! \u2014 at South Florida restaurants last week. These and other violations (rodent droppings, live roaches) led to the temporary closures of five eateries and one food truck in Broward and Palm Beach counties.<\/p>\n
The Sun Sentinel typically highlights restaurant inspections conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in Broward and Palm Beach counties. We cull through inspections that happen weekly and spotlight places ordered shut for violations such as improper food temperatures or dead cockroaches.<\/p>\n

(But please don\u2019t contact us: The Sun Sentinel doesn\u2019t inspect restaurants.)<\/p>\n PALM BEACH COUNTY<\/p>\n Mi Tierra Food Truck Ordered shut: Dec. 19<\/p>\n Why: 3 violations (two high-priority<\/a>), including:<\/p>\n About 32 live roaches in areas such as \u201cunder steam table on counter top,\u201d \u201con top of single-service paper liners,\u201d \u201con ceiling and wall joint,\u201d \u201con storage rack for single-service items,\u201d \u201con floor under steam table,\u201d \u201cinside dry seasoning cabinets,\u201d \u201con wall next to [three-compartment] sink\u201d and \u201con single-service takeout box.\u201d Status: Closed Dec. 20 after a reinspection<\/a> found two high-priority violations and Dec. 22 after a third visit<\/a> found one high-priority violation. Reopened Dec. 23 after a fourth inspection<\/a> found no violations.<\/p>\n Bond Street Ale and Coffee Ordered shut: Dec. 18<\/p>\n Why: 12 violations (eight high-priority<\/a>), including:<\/p>\n Four live flies seen \u201csitting on Dutch apple pie,\u201d \u201con the wall at triple sink\u201d and \u201con speed rack with dirty dishes next to cook line.\u201d A stop sale was ordered for the pie. Status: Reopened Dec. 19 after a reinspection<\/a> found one basic violation.<\/p>\n How Ya Dough\u2019n Ordered shut: Dec. 17<\/p>\n Why: Two high-priority violations<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n About 72 live flies seen \u201clanding on trash can\u201d and in areas such as on wall \u201cat hand washing sink next to oven,\u201d \u201con pan of cookies,\u201d \u201con seasoning shaker,\u201d \u201con pizza boxes,\u201d \u201con seats and wall in dining room,\u201d \u201con box of stainless steel scrubbers in kitchen at dish area\u201d and \u201con dish storage rack.\u201d<\/p>\n Status: Reopened Dec. 19 after a follow-up visit<\/a> found one high-priority violation.
