Are you prepared if your relative is discharged from a health care facility?\u00a0 The federal budget cut $880 billion to Medicaid over the next 10 years, significantly\u00a0affecting the healthcare in Lee County, particularly\u00a0impacting nursing homes.<\/p>\n
Many residents\u00a0 are soon to lose their Medicaid coverage, putting the pressure on the\u00a0family to deliver quality care. The\u00a0impact will also be felt by our local hospitals due to the financial strain\u00a0due to reduced funding impacting their ability to deliver quality care.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nursing home regulations: When Medicaid benefits\u00a0are set to expire a nursing home\u00a0 resident has a limited time to arrange\u00a0private payment or alternative\u00a0care. Importantly, nursing homes cannot simply evict\u00a0residents simply due to expiration of benefits, emphasis\u00a0needs to be proactive planning for residents and the family.<\/p>\n
Some community\u00a0consequences\u00a0will lead to increased hospitalizations, emergency\u00a0room visits and families navigating\u00a0the\u00a0healthcare system without\u00a0adequate\u00a0coverage, ultimately\u00a0affecting\u00a0the public health outcomes in Lee County.<\/p>\n
