She served seven years as president of the Friends\u2019 Board, the longest tenure of any president.<\/p>\n<p>Registration and entry submissions should be made on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sloughpreserve.org\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Friends website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First-, second- and third-place winners will be awarded in three categories: Plants and Landscapes, Birds, and Animals. A Grand Prize winner will be awarded to the\u00a0photo\u00a0the judges deem best overall.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the regular adult\u00a0contest, there will be separate contests for youths and staff members. Youth entries are eligible for the Grand Prize. Youths ages 17 and under can participate for free. The entry cost for adults is $15 for Friends members and $25 for non-members. Payment for submissions must be made online via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sloughpreserve.org\/photo-contest-1\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Friends website<\/a>. Entrants can submit up to three photos.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Grand Prize\u00a0photo\u00a0was taken by Kristina Mintz, a fifth-grade teacher at Heights Elementary School in Fort Myers. Her\u00a0photo\u00a0showed a crayfish snake coiled around a bald cypress knee.<\/p>\n<p>Winning photos will be displayed at the Slough\u2019s Interpretive Center starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at a ceremony announcing the results. <\/p>\n<p>Winning photos from past years can be viewed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sloughpreserve.org\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Friends website<\/a>\u00a0and in the Interpretive Center. The Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays. Admission to the Center and the boardwalk is free with paid parking, which is $1 an hour or $5 for an entire day.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a total of 270 photos were submitted in all categories combined by 113 different people. Twenty-nine photos received honors.<\/p>\n<p>The Friends organization\u00a0is\u00a0a nonprofit citizens group. Membership levels in the Friends organization start at $10 for students and $25 for individuals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More information about the\u00a0photo contest\u00a0and\u00a0membership is available on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sloughpreserve.org\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Slough Friends website<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve\u00a0is more than 3,500 acres of wetland ecosystem with a boardwalk trail and Interpretive Center at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Six+Mile+Cypress+Slough+Preserve\/@26.5705632,-81.8272492,16z\/data=!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x88db6ad6d75291a1:0x64465b8dacfa4272!2s7751+Penzance+Blvd,+Fort+Myers,+FL+33966!3b1!8m2!3d26.5705632!4d-81.8272492!16s%2Fg%2F11c1zmcslg!3m5!1s0x88db6ad6e1f37e21:0xd789d1497deca739!8m2!3d26.5705414!4d-81.8265635!16s%2Fg%2F11gnrly1_9?entry=ttu&amp;g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">7751 Penzance Blvd., Fort Myers<\/a>. Animals like otters, alligators, turtles, wading birds, and more live at the Slough year-round. Others, like migrating birds and butterflies, use the Slough as a feeding area\u00a0or a winter home.
