It’s a separate business owned and operated by Naser Abuoqab, who has smash burgers, tacos, salads and more on the menu.

Keith and Meshelle Towles own the bar, which general manager Kate Voorhees runs with about 25 employees.

“We want to be the new Cheers of downtown,” said marketing director Jeremy Christenson, referencing the 1980s TV show about the bar “where everybody knows your name.”

And then there’s the name of the bar.

The G Spot and Chef & Co. open in downtown Fort Myers

                                    Provided

When brainstorming a name for the revitalized space, which previously had been Voodoo Brewing Co., from May 2024 until April 2025, the word “Gathering” kept coming up during discussions. But there were other bars named Gathering, Christenson said.

The G in “G Spot,” doesn’t necessarily allude to Ernst Grafenberg, the German gynecologist for whom that G Spot is named.

“The G doesn’t stand for anything in particular,” Christenson said. “OK, we understand the tongue-and-cheek nature of it. But the G can stand for ‘Gathering’ or ‘Grateful’ or ‘Good’ food and ‘Great’ drinks.

“We’re taking the Master Bait & Tackle approach to this,” Christenson said, referencing the fishing supply store off Bonita Beach Road which, like the G Spot, has a name that sounds off-color.

In all seriousness, Christenson said the G Spot is going to focus on customer service and being a fun place to unwind after work, with eight big-screen TVs, including a 98-inch screen, plus two dartboards, indoor shuffleboard and a Golden Tee golf video game. European soccer games also will become a theme, with the bar planning to show them during the morning hours, plus NFL and college football and basketball during the afternoon and evenings.

As for the food, Abuoqab, whose family immigrated from Palestine to LaBelle more than 30 years ago, said it will be a launching pad for the Chef & Co. concept.

“I come from a background of tacos,” said Abuoqab, whose taco restaurant Fiesta is located off State Road 29 in LaBelle. “We saw the opening here, and I feel we’re catering to a new clientele.

“We specialize in tacos, but we have smash burgers and chef-inspired, gourmet bar food.”

[14
2873,209,211,210,51698,897,5221,51697
0":"post-97802","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cape-coral","8":"tag-bar","9":"tag-cape-coral","10":"tag-cape-coral-headlines","11":"tag-cape-coral-news","12":"tag-chef-co","13":"tag-fort-myers","14":"tag-restaurant","15":"tag-the-g-spot
["GET
