PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 A high-speed collision late Saturday night left one man dead and four others injured after a driver ran a red light at a busy St. Petersburg intersection.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on December 27 at the intersection of North Frontage Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.<\/p>\n<p>According to investigators, a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling northbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North with a green light. As the SUV entered the intersection, it was struck by a blue Dodge Charger traveling westbound on North Frontage Road.<\/p>\n<p>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampafp.com\/16-year-old-girl-killed-by-drunk-driver-in-apollo-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">16-Year-Old Girl Killed By Drunk Driver In Apollo Beach<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police say the driver of the Charger, identified as 31-year-old Izell Shelby of St. Petersburg, was speeding and failed to stop at the red traffic signal before slamming into the Mitsubishi.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency responders rushed Shelby to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities noted that speed and the failure to wear a seatbelt were significant factors in his death.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Mitsubishi and her three passengers were also transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital.
