The city wants your ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 The city of Orlando is asking for your suggestions to make housing more affordable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The city has released a survey on its website. You do not need to be a current resident of Orlando to fill it out. The survey is due Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The city said feedback from its 2020 Housing and Community Needs survey helped drive plans for more affordable housing communities, like Fairlawn Village, which opened along Mercy Drive in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The complex has 116 units for people making at or less than 60% of the Area Median Income, along with 20 units for housing for homeless people, domestic violence survivors, people with a disability, or young people aging out of foster care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">[WATCH: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer talks development, growth, affordable housing]<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huduser.gov\/portal\/datasets\/il\/il2025\/2025summary.odn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.huduser.gov\/portal\/datasets\/il\/il2025\/2025summary.odn\">U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development<\/a>, the median income in the Orlando area is $98,100. A family of four making \u201cVery Low Income\u201d has a household income of around $52,700.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Affordable housing units are not the only thing the city is looking at.
