MIAMI \u2014 He found and bought the car of his dreams, only to have the dealership lure him back and take it away. Today, 21-year-old Christian Mobley says he is out $30,000 and an investigation into what happened is now underway. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the car I\u2019ve always wanted and I just gave it a shot and this was what happened,\u201d Mobley said.<\/p>\n
Mobley spotted a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT online, a car he had long wanted. \u201cYes, this is a very hard car to find,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Grand Cherokee was sitting on the lot at Miami Auto Mall, located at 201 SW 37th Ave. in the city\u2019s Little Havana neighborhood. Mobley bought the vehicle and drove off the lot. But two weeks later, the dealership allegedly lured him back under false pretenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo they asked you to bring the car back, saying they needed to do a rebuild inspection,\u201d Local 10 investigator Jeff Weinsier asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d Mobley confirmed.<\/p>\n
Video recorded by Mobley shows the dealership owner instructing him, \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be at the inspection place and I don\u2019t want no problems.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mobley was asked to remove all of his possessions from the SUV. The owner added, \u201cI know my people aren\u2019t gonna steal but it might be the other people, you know what I mean? Humans are worse than dogs, humans are f—ed up.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, there was never going to be an inspection. Suspicious, Mobley placed a tracker in his Jeep. \u201cIt\u2019s not at the rebuild inspection place. It\u2019s at random stores,\u201d Mobley said. \u201cSo I follow it and I see a random individual driving the car that I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n
The real story, according to authorities, is that Miami Auto Mall allegedly returned Mobley\u2019s Grand Cherokee to the original owner because the dealership never paid for it. When the SUV was tracked to a home in Miramar, Mobley called police.<\/p>\n
In a TikTok video showing the interaction, a Miramar police officer told Mobley, \u201cThey never gave him (the original owner) the money and they have given him the runaround so he was like just give me my car back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo currently I\u2019m out $30,000 in a loan and I\u2019m out of the vehicle that I purchased,\u201d Mobley said.<\/p>\n
Mobley added, \u201cYes. They knew this the whole time. And they\u2019re just lying to my face saying, \u2018Oh, we\u2019ll have it back in three to four days.\u2019 They never plan to have it back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weinsier confronted a dealership employee in the office. \u201cJeff Weinsier with Local 10 News,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, we have no comment,\u201d the employee replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr. Mobley? What do you mean, \u2018No comment\u2019? You have thirty thousand of his dollars?\u201d Weinsier asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cGet off of the property please,\u201d the employee said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing to explain?\u201d Weinsier asked<\/p>\n
Not only was Weinsier told to leave without explanation, but the dealership also called the police on him.<\/p>\n
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which licenses dealerships in the state, confirmed the situation is under investigation. Records show nine complaints filed against Miami Auto Mall in the past three years, eight of which involved violations.<\/p>\n
The dealership\u2019s front door advertises, \u201c5-star Google rating,\u201d \u201cCustomer satisfaction is our priority,\u201d and \u201cFamily owned and operated.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mobley has a warning for other buyers. \u201cMy recommendation is don\u2019t go to small dealerships like this. Go to big-name dealerships. I\u2019ve learned my lesson. I\u2019m young, I just wanted a car and I learned my lesson from there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials with the Miami Police Department say the situation has been forwarded to detectives in its Economic Crimes Unit for further investigation.<\/p>\n
