Local Parti is a boutique, sustainability-driven architecture studio designing high-performance homes and small multi-unit projects that are deeply rooted in place, people, and climate. We design with intention, rigor, and care — for our clients, our collaborators, and each other.
We are looking for a Senior Architect who is ready for a long-term professional home — someone who wants flexibility in their life, but also meaning, responsibility, and pride in their work.
This is not a churn-and-burn firm.
This is a place to grow.
Engagement Type
This role is structured as an independent contractor (1099) position, not an employment role.
The position is primarily remote / flexible, with a project-based workload and the potential for ongoing, long-term collaboration. Candidates must be comfortable working autonomously within established systems and standards.
Contractors are responsible for their own workspace, equipment, and software.
Who You Are
You are that rare combination of calm, capable, and exacting.
You love:
Turning complex design intent into clean, clear construction documents
Working inside well-defined systems — and making them better
Catching the thing everyone else missed
Leaving nothing dangling
You are kind, but not vague.
You are firm, but not abrasive.
You communicate clearly, follow through, and respect other people’s time.
You show up prepared — to meetings, to calls, to drawings.
Role Context
While this role is design-aware, it is strongly focused on technical execution, coordination, and delivery. Much of the work occurs within pre-defined specifications, standards, and organizational systems, often in collaboration with large or institutional clients.
Success in this role requires comfort working within established frameworks while maintaining a high bar for clarity, accuracy, and follow-through.
What You’ll Do
You will be the backbone of project delivery at Local Parti.
Your role includes:
Producing and managing high-quality construction documents within established firm standards, templates, and specifications
Coordinating consultants and tracking open items so nothing falls through the cracks
Leading project organization: file structure, drawing sets, issue logs, schedules
Running and participating in meetings with clear agendas, action items, and follow-up
Communicating with clients and consultants in a professional, grounded, and human way
Identifying workflow improvements and system optimizations as the firm grows
Additional Responsibilities
Review, redline, and quality-control drawing sets to ensure technical accuracy and consistency
Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and filing standards (particularly NYC DOB, where applicable)
Coordinate with consultants (structural, MEP, expediting, etc.) within defined scopes
Support and guide junior team members through clear direction and constructive feedback
This role is not just about drawing — it’s about making the machine run beautifully.
You Might Be the Right Fit If…
You:
Have 8+ years of professional architectural experience
Are comfortable being both detail-oriented and big-picture aware
Can work independently without needing constant oversight
Are deeply reliable — people trust you because you always close the loop
Love solving problems and building smarter systems
Are excellent on the phone and in writing — clear, calm, and professional
Want flexibility, but not chaos
Crave reliability and stability in your professional life
You have significant professional experience working on projects in New York City, and are comfortable navigating complex regulatory, consultant, and documentation environments.
You are not looking to hop firms every year.
You’re looking to belong somewhere and help shape it.
How We Work
Local Parti runs on:
Clear standards
Thoughtful systems
Respect for focused work
And mutual trust
We believe flexibility should exist inside structure — not instead of it.
You will have autonomy, flexibility, and meaningful responsibility — but also clarity about expectations and support to do your best work. AND… open communication with the founder.
Why This Role Is Different
This is a chance to:
Be deeply valued for your reliability, intelligence, and care
Help shape how a growing firm operates
Work on beautiful, meaningful, sustainability-driven projects
Build something long-term with people who respect your life outside work
No heroics.
No burnout culture.
Just excellent work, done with intention.
If this sounds like you — we’d love to meet you.
(And yes, if you secretly love spreadsheets, specs, and well-run meetings, you’re among friends here.)
