NEW YORK (PIX11) — The Verizon outage is still causing issues for New York City residents.
Over 180,000 Verizon customers experienced a nationwide service outage on Wednesday, leading to many smartphone users being stuck in “SOS” mode.
Among some hotspots for outages was New York City, according to Downdetector. As of 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, over 40,000 Verizon customers were still having network issues.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Office of Emergency Management said it is “working closely with our partners” to solve the issue.
We are also gathering information and updates from the affected network providers. The cause and scope of the outage are still being investigated. We will provide updates if the situation changes in a way that impacts the City of New York,” the OEM said.
The OEM said users can check their cellphone carrier’s websites or social media accounts for updates or any emergency alerts through NotifyNYC.
New York City remains a hotspot on Downdetector’s outage map.
Verizon has the following statement on its website:
“Verizon is aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. We are working to restore service quickly.”
