ELMO STUDIOS is a boutique architecture and interior design practice based in New York City. The studio takes a fully integrated approach, treating architecture and interiors as inseparable parts of a single design vision.

Rooted in a philosophy of refined minimalism, the work is defined by clarity, precision, and material integrity. At its core, the studio is driven by curiosity and a commitment to innovation—continually rethinking how space is inhabited and experienced. Projects are carried through all phases, from concept to construction, with a focus on thoughtful design and long-term impact.

The Role

We are seeking an Intermediate Architectural Designer to join our studio. This role is for a highly capable designer who is comfortable working in 3D and ready to take ownership of design development across multiple phases of a project.

The ideal candidate uses Rhino and Enscape as primary design tools, working within complex 3D environments to generate, test, and refine ideas. Beyond technical skill, the role requires the ability to independently develop and clearly present architectural and interior design concepts, producing precise, thoughtful, and well-resolved design work.

We are a small and focused studio with high standards. This position offers close involvement across multiple projects at different stages and is best suited to someone eager to fully engage in a rigorous, design-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Ideate, develop, and present architectural and interior design concepts, taking ownership of design development from early concept through execution

Play a key role in early project phases by establishing design strategies, conducting precedent research, and defining clear design direction

Build and maintain complex Rhino 3D environments as active design tools, producing refined Enscape renderings that clearly communicate design intent

Contribute to architectural documentation across Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documentation phases

Lead the design and detailing of custom furniture and millwork

Research, specify, and procure architectural products, fixtures, and furnishings

Coordinate with and assist in managing design consultants, including Structural, MEP, Lighting, and Landscape

Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings during construction

Contribute to the refinement and standardization of studio workflows and processes

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited university (Master’s preferred)

3–6 years of professional experience, ideally in high-end Residential, Hospitality, Commercial, and/or Cultural projects

Strong, well-developed design sensibility with a clear understanding of contemporary design, precedent, and materials

Demonstrated ability to independently develop and communicate design ideas

Advanced proficiency in Rhino and Enscape is required, with the ability to produce presentation-quality renderings

Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Experience with high-end specifications, fixtures, and interior furnishings

Authorized to work in the U.S.

Workplace Requirement

This is a full-time, in-office position based in New York City, requiring attendance at the studio five days per week.
