Former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey is running for governor in Connecticut, she announced this week.

“If you’re tired of high property taxes, unaffordable electric bills, and jobs moving out of the state, I’ve got solutions for you,” McCaughey wrote on X on Thursday in announcing her bid for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont.

McCaughey served as New York lieutenant governor for one term under former Gov. George Pataki from 1995 to 1998.

The two had a falling out during that time and Pataki dropped her from the ticket in the 1998 election. McCaughey then ran against him as a Democrat that year unsuccessfully, losing the Democratic primary to Peter Vallone Sr.

After public office, McCaughey in 2005 founded is now chair of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths (RID), a nationwide educational campaign to stop hospital-acquired infections. She has also been a weekly columnist for the New York Post.
