STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A day after a nationwide outage impacted over a million of its customers, Verizon Wireless is vowing to make it right with a financial benefit.
In a post to X shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, the official account wrote: “Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves.”
The statement went on to say that the company will provide each affected customer with a $20 credit to its account, though it “isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us.”
The outage knocked phones on the service out of order, with some users reporting seeing “SOS” in the area of their cellphone screen where they would normally see service bars.
The outage spanned most of the day Wednesday but was reported to be resolved around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday night.
Most of the customers impacted were along the East Coast, according to Downdetector. The cities that experienced the most trouble were Atlanta, G.A.; Charlotte, N.C.; Philadelphia, P.A.; Miami, F.L.; and New York City, N.Y.
Customers across platforms voiced their discontent with the abrupt and lengthy outage.
During the throes of the outage, Verizon’s competition took the opportunity to throw some shade on the company.
“Our network? Solid. If you’re experiencing issues, it’s not us…..it’s the other guys. Some things are just out of our hands!” AT&T’s official X account wrote.
