Part of Interstate 81 is currently closed due to a multi-vehicle crash in the town of LaFayette, New York State Police said Thursday.
According to the Tully Fire Department, upwards of 40 vehicles were involved in the crash.
Officials said motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Traffic is being detoured off at Exit 73, with motorists directed to take State Route 20 to U.S. Route 11.
According to the Tully Fire Department, 12 ambulances have been assigned to the crash. They are being aided by Onondaga County Emergency Management Personnel.
I-81 northbound at the Tully exit is currently closed so emergency vehicles can respond to the scene, police said.
