CANARSIE — CON EDISON is investing $1.3 billion to build the Gateway Substation on East 91st Street in Canarsie, a massive infrastructure project that will deliver power to roughly 52,000 customers across Central and East Brooklyn, according to abc7ny. The project includes 28 miles of underground cable and aims to protect the borough from widespread outages like those seen in years past.
Community leaders say the investment could help address long-standing inequities in East Brooklyn, where residents face rising costs and extreme heat.
