A 46-year-old person has died following a single-vehicle car accident in the The University Heights section of The Bronx over the weekend, the NYPD said.
Police said that on Sunday, Oct. 19, at around 4.27 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision that took place in the vicinity of East 181st Street and Jerome Avenue.
“Upon further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, it was determined that a 46-year-old male was operating a 2021 BMW 330i, traveling northbound on Jerome Avenue approaching Cameron Place, when he failed to navigate the roadway,” police said. “The vehicle sideswiped a pillar and then continued, colliding head-on with an additional pillar before coming to a final rest.”
They said EMS responded and transported the driver to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. They said there were no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
Police said the deceased was identified as Edward Soler from Manhattan.
With collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
