BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Bronx man who once faced homelessness now has his very own apartment, thanks to one of the city’s newest 100 percent affordable housing developments.

His building is called The Plains at 4519 White Plains Road, a residence run by The Doe Fund that’s helping to break cycles of homelessness and rebuild lives.

For Eric McClendon, this new home represents a dream come true after years of struggling with unstable housing and unsafe living conditions.

At The Plains, residents don’t just get a home they also gain a support system. The Doe Fund provides job training, counseling, and community programs to help tenants thrive.

The Doe Fund currently operates a dozen supportive housing buildings across the city, with three more planned in the Bronx and one in Brooklyn, creating hundreds of new affordable homes for New Yorkers working toward stability and opportunity.
