DOWNTOWN — A BROOKLYN GANG MEMBER pleaded guilty in federal court to racketeering and murder-related charges, the eighth member of the Hyena Crips to admit culpability in a long-running violent conspiracy, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. 

Richler Morette, 30, also known as “Breezy,” admitted to racketeering tied to a fatal drive-by shooting and to conspiring to murder rival gang members, according to prosecutors. Morette faces up to life in prison.

Prosecutors said the Flatbush-based gang carried out murders, robberies and fraud schemes over more than a decade, including the killings of Leandre Mallinckrodt in 2012, 15-year-old Samuel Joseph in 2019 and Roodson Polynice in 2020. Court filings allege Morette reacted to the 2020 shooting with laughing emojis and messages stating, “don’t care who got hit.”

Seven co-defendants have already pleaded guilty, with several awaiting sentencing, as the case continues to wind through federal court.
