A 22-year-old Brooklyn man faces charges of murder and a weapons offense in the stabbing death of his 85-year-old grandmother, the NYPD said.

Jackson King was arrested Friday in the slaying of Julia Boomer. She suffered multiple stab wounds in an attack Tuesday night in the Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment the two shared, police said.

King had been taken into custody hours after the attack, but not charged until Friday. Police said earlier they were looking into the possibility the attack came as King suffered a psychotic episode.

There was no immediate word on any attorney information for King. Boomer’s death was the first homicide of 2026 in the 79th Precinct, which includes Bed-Stuy, according to NYPD data.

Homicides in the precinct remained level in 2024 and 2025, with eight reported in each year. Citywide, they fell more than 20% year over year, police said.
