BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Chris Albano exploded for a career-high 41 points and Susan Wagner pulled away for a 89-72 PSAL 4A Brooklyn-Staten Island division victory over host Erasmus on Saturday.

Albano’s impressive performance included 16 field goals, including five from behind the arc. The three-year varsity player also had one four-point play and a pair of conventional three-point plays.

Charles Gambino (16 points), Clevi Hoxha (10 points), Darin Humes-James (nine points) and Brayden Louisson (eight points) also contributed offensively for the Falcons, who improved to 14-6 overall, including 7-4 in league play.

Jaydel Martinez and Jesse Davis scored 24 and 19 points, respectively, for the Dutchmen.

“It was a good result to finish a very challenging week,’’ said SW head coach Danny Lanigan. ”We definitely weren’t our best defensively or on the boards and Erasmus plays with a great deal of effort and made some difficult shots.

“(But Albano) obviously had another monster game and we needed it because our other shooters couldn’t get much to fall,’’ the second-year coach continued. ”(Gambino) had another workman’s double-double and (Louisson) finished with a career-high in points and rebounds that really helped contribute to today’s win.”

Thanks to Albano’s 17 points and Humes-James’ nine markers, the Falcons took a 41-34 advantage into halftime.

Albano then took over in the second half. The point guard finished with 24 markers and Gambino added 10 as the visitors cruised to victory.

Petrides 70, FDR 63

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Daynell Rowland finished with a game-high 39 points as he led the Panthers to the non-league decision over the host Phantoms on Saturday.

Rowland played like he was making up for lost time because, in reality, he was. The junior was benched in the first quarter because he missed practice the day before, but he finished with six three-pointers and drained 9 of 12 free-throw attempts as he scored 30-or-more points for the fifth time this season.

Aiden Gonzalez added 10 points while Kareem Nesbitt, Sonyboy Zintamus and Darien Niles combined for another 18 markers for the 4-12 Panthers.

Kristopher Galarza finished with a team-high 19 points for FDR.

The Panthers held a slim 49-47 advantage heading into the final quarter when Rowland saved his best for last. The guard poured in 18 fourth-quarter points, including his last two threes and 4 of 6 freebies, to help the Sunnyside school pull out the victory.

Farrell 53, Fordham Prep 47

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The older the season gets, the hotter the Lions’ Ryan Hanley gets.

Hanley topped his career high for the second straight game with 24 points and added 11 rebounds to lead Farrell to a 53-47 CHSAA A victory over the visiting Rams Saturday in Oakwood.

Hanley, who had two threes, went 4 for 4 from the free-throw line and blocked three shots, led a late run that helped the Lions avenge an early-season loss to the Rams.

Senior JJ Yates (six rebounds) added 15 points for Farrell, which improved to 8-7 overall, including 6-5 in league play.

Hanley’s performance overshadowed a brilliant performance by Fordham Prep senior Brian Kapfer, who finished with a game-high 30 points (six three-pointers). The Rams fell to 8-7 overall (4-6 CHSAA).

Fordham tied the game at 47, but the Lions responded by going on a game-ending 6-0 run that propelled them to victory. The 6-foot-6 Hanley scored off a high-low feed from guard Jack Gomez with 2:30 left in the game.

The teams went several possessions without either scoring, but with under 20 ticks to play, Hanley gave Farrell a bit of breathing room by connecting on two free-throw attempts.

Yates, who was 6 for 6 from the line (Farrell was 11 for 12 overall) added two more freebies in the waning seconds to help provide the final score.

Hanley’s 13 first-half points propelled Farrell to a 26-20 lead at halftime, but Kapfer’s 15 third-quarter points — including four treys — helped the visitors narrow their deficit to two points (42-40) entering the final eight minutes.

Hanley led Farrell with seven fourth-quarter markers.

SIA 70, Eagle Academy SI 48

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It was Sweet 16 for the Tigers Saturday, as they registered the non-league victory over Eagle at SIA’s Dongan Hills court.

The win pushed the Academy’s record to 16-0 on the season, continuing the Tigers’ best start in school history.

Luke DeVito paced the Tigers’ attack with 22 points, including two three-pointers. Johan Wielens and Gabe Moschella added 11 apiece, and the backcourt of Danny Nowak and John Elefterakis (two treys) split 16 points.

Armani Perez led Eagle with 20 points while Justin Webley added seven.

A 10-0 Tigers run in the second quarter opened things up for the hosts after a sluggish offensive start against Eagle’s zone defense. Elefterakis, Moschella, DeVito, and Ayden Howe all forced turnovers during the run, as the Tigers entered halftime with a 36-20 lead.

“This was the end of a grueling stretch,” Tigers head coach, Mike Mazella, noted. “We played five games in eight days and a couple of those were real emotional contests, including the one last night when Danny hit his 1,000th point. It was a quick turnaround and we started a bit slowly, which is what we were afraid of. But our defense led to that run we had in the second quarter and helped put us in control.”

Moschella came alive in the third quarter, posting seven points for SIA and Elefterakis and DeVito each buried a three-pointer to increase the Tigers’ lead. Wielens, then, carried the load for the hosts in the final period, notching nine in the quarter.

“Johan did a nice job running the court today and finishing strong around the basket,” Mazella observed. “If he plays with confidence and contributes for us, our game can go to another level.”

SIA, now 5-0 against Island competition, is off for almost a full week, as they await a pivotal matchup with Dwight at home on Friday.

“Right now we hold the top two spots in the ACIS (SIA at 10-0 and Dwight at 8-1),” Mazella offered. “We gave Dwight its only loss early in the season, but they’ve been playing very well recently. I’m sure they will want to get some payback for that loss, and I know it’s going to be a battle when we meet next week. We will have to be ready.”
