STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island students performed holiday songs for residents of a local nursing home last month.

The theatre arts academy at PS 56 in Rossville traveled to NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View last month to give out holiday cards and perform songs for residents.

“Some of my students got teary eyed from the experience,” said Brooke Lopez, a teacher at PS 56. “I think the kids came away with a new appreciation for the power of the arts, and how performing for others can lift spirits and bring joy to everyone involved in the performance, whether they are a performer or an audience member!”

Students plan to return in the spring to perform excerpts from the school’s next theater performance.
