STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a fire at a home in Westerleigh amid bitterly cold temperatures on Tuesday morning.

The fire was called in at 8 a.m. at 56 Goodwin Ave. between S. Greenleaf Avenue and Westcott Boulevard, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY/EMS

The fire is thought to have started in the basement of the home.

About 21 units and 79 fire and EMS personnel brought the blaze under control in about a half-hour, at 8:36 a.m., according to the spokesperson.

The injured firefighter was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the spokesperson said.
