In a letter to the editor, Bayonne 2nd Ward Councilwoman Jackie Weimmer explains why she won’t be seeking re-election in the May 12 non-partisan elections.
Dear Editor,
After thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision not to seek re-election at this time.
I believe deeply that when we stand alongside a team, it should be because we share a common vision, core values, and confidence in what that team can responsibly and thoughtfully build for the future.
At this point, my views and priorities for our community are not fully aligned with those currently seeking office.
I believe our community deserves strong fiscal responsibility, thoughtful stewardship, and leadership grounded in both financial expertise and the practical management of an entire municipality.
Moving forward will require difficult decisions, transparency, and a clear, data-driven plan that puts the long-term health of our community first.
To my friends and neighbors, my advice is simple: stay involved, do not lose hope, and continue to ask questions.
There is much that remains unknown, and our community deserves accurate, honest, and fact-based information to guide its future.
While I am stepping away from elected office for now, I remain hopeful that I can continue to stay engaged and contribute meaningfully to our community.
I also hope that one day I may again have the opportunity to serve in a more integral role.
Please know that my door is always open. If I can be of help in any way, I sincerely hope you will not hesitate to reach out.
With warmest personal regards,
Jacqueline Weimmer
Bayonne 2nd Ward councilwoman
