The Issue: President Trump’s threats to cut federal funds if New York City remains a sanctuary city.
Like him or not, President Trump holds enormous power to help or hinder New York City, which heavily relies on federal support to fund major infrastructure projects (“Zo-ver and Don with,” Jan. 15).
Yet that assistance is jeopardized when elected officials like Mayor Mamdani choose hostility over pragmatic engagement.
Political grandstanding may score partisan points, but it does nothing to improve roads, bridges and public services. Respecting the president and engaging with the administration is not capitulation — it’s responsible governance.

Mamdani and Gov. Hochul want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to keep New York City a sanctuary state while contradicting immigration law and still get federal funding.
So long as they continue to spend money on illegals’ food, clothing and shelter, President Trump is right in denying them any federal funding.

Anyone who voted for Mamdani is probably happy he is taking a stand against Trump on New York being a sanctuary city. Have they forgotten how much Mayor Eric Adams’ approach to sanctuary policies cost the city? And what about the increased crime rate? These people just don’t care.

Mamdani claims “our values in our laws are not bargaining chips.” Our laws? Sanctuary policies were put into place by mayors and the City Council and never voted on by citizens. How does that make it “our laws?”
We’ve already seen how not following federal immigration laws places extreme stress on citizens, financially and physically. It’s ridiculous to tell citizens they must obey laws, and then give illegals a pass. Where is the value in that?

It makes sense that Trump would want to try and get along with Mayor Mamdani. But behind that grin is the same guy we unfortunately elected.
He will never change his mind about New York being a sanctuary city. Thus, we need the president to keep fighting for us, even if that means cutting federal funds.

Mamdani’s agenda will make New York City the greatest city for free stuff and fraud, waste and abuse. “Come One, Come All” is New York’s new motto.

The Issue: Dr. Nisha Verma’s refusal to answer Sen. Josh Hawley’s question, “Can men get pregnant?”
It’s 2026, and we still have people, doctors no less, who can’t acknowledge that men can’t get pregnant (“Answering to ideology,” Kirsten Fleming, Jan. 16).
When a child is born, it’s either male or female. To pretend anything else is merely indulging the whims of woke ideology.
The fact that Dr. Nisha Verma could not answer Sen. Josh Hawley is a prime example of delusional thought processes.
God enabled women to give birth because men could not handle childbirth.

It doesn’t make a difference to me as to what gender identity people relate themselves to these days.
The one thing that did cause a skip in my step was when a board-certified OB/GYN was hard-pressed to answer the simple question, “Can men get pregnant?” This political rhetoric is beyond the majority’s comprehension of normalcy in today’s society.
How can these so-called professionals go to such absurd lengths to placate such extreme and unrealistic ideologies?
