Oswegatchie, N.Y. — The driver of an Amish buggy was injured in a hit-and-run crash last week in Upstate New York.

The accident happened around 5:24 p.m. on Friday in Oswegatchie, a small town about one hour northeast of Fort Drum in Northern New York, about 30 minutes after sunset.

Joseph S. Miller, 34, of Heuvelton, was operating an Amish buggy southeast on Linden Street when he spotted an oncoming vehicle drive into his lane while trying to pass a car traveling in the northwest lane, the New York State Police said in a news release.

Miller tried to avoid a crash, but was unable to do so, troopers said. The oncoming SUV hit Miller’s buggy and fled the scene without stopping, troopers said.

Miller was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Investigators found debris from the suspect’s damaged vehicle at the scene of the hit-and-run and determined the pieces belonged to a Jeep Compass, troopers said.

With the help of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, troopers said investigators found the silver 2018 Jeep Compass and its owner, Bobbi Jean Seguin, 26, of Ogdensburg.

Seguin was arrested at 10:24 p.m. in the city of Ogdensburg about five hours after the accident, according to arrest records from the New York State Police. She was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a misdemeanor, and is due to appear in Oswegatchie Town Court in March to face the charges.
