Youngsters at the York College Child and Family Center, Inc. received a special treat on Thursday (January 15) when New York State Governor Kathy Hochul visited to tour the center, engage with the children, and highlight her proposal for universal childcare. After spending time with the children, Governor Hochul held a press conference and was joined by CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, York College President Claudia Schrader, Charlene Dertinger, Director of Child Care at York College Child and Family Center and New York State Senator Leroy Comrie (Senate District 14).
Gov. Hochul said: “When we invest in our kids, we’re investing not just in their future, but the future of our state… Today, too many families are faced with — number one, do we even have a child? Can we afford a child in this day and age, or do we put off our careers and our dreams, or how do we just really make life even harder by trying to manage the cost of the diapers and the formulas and the little clothes that change every three months?”
A recording of the press conference is available on YouTube.
