A year to the day since President Donald Trump took the oath of office for a second time, New Yorkers marked the anniversary with a different ceremony — a protest.

Outside Trump Tower, hundreds chanted in the shadow of the golden letters.

Hundreds more gathered at Bryant Park, bringing their message through the heart of Midtown.

The temperature was brutal, but that didn’t keep people at home.

“What he’s doing with ICE, I mean, they murdered a woman in cold blood in Minneapolis. They’re dragging American citizens and carting them off. They’re deporting immigrants [who] haven’t committed crimes,” Manhattan resident John Amatrudo said.

But Trump in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday said the year was a success.

“We have a lot of accomplishments,” Trump said. “Look at the border. The border is now secure for the first time.”

Others at the protest in the city say this isn’t just about one man, it’s about the system that lets it happen.

And for some, this was personal, grief turning into resolve.

“Every morning, I want to cry for what’s going on in this country,” Manhattan resident Mary Jo Amatrudo said. “It seems like we’re all powerless, and when I come to a group like this, I feel empowered.”
