FLORENCE, Ala. (January 21, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women’s basketball team is schedule to return to the court this week to take on Queens and Central Arkansas in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

The Lions tip off the week against the Royals on Thursday, Jan. 22, in CB&S Bank Arena at 6 p.m. UNA will travel to face the Sugar Bears on Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Farris Center at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for both games through North Alabama and Central Arkansas’ ticket offices, respectively.

Live stats will be provided by StatBroadcast against Queens and SIDEARM for Central Arkansas. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+ with Grant Wakefield on the call and Matt Daniels providing commentary against the Royals. Chase Glover will additionally serve as the courtside reporter in the Queens’ contest.

The matchup vs. the Royals will also air on radio through Roar Lions Productions. Bryan Neece will provide commentary, and the “Countdown to Tipoff” radio show is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m.

Full results and a recap will be posted on RoarLions.com following each game, but fans can also follow along in real time on the UNA Women’s Basketball social media pages.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the game against Queens, as parking is limited due to ongoing construction. As such, the lot near the Hal Self Athletic Annex will be unavailable. Violators will be towed if parked in the construction zone.

Lots A and B will be in the parking lot directly below Flowers Hall. Lot A pass holders will have coned off spots near the staircase. Shuttles will be available to take fans up to the field house lot for entry into CB&S Bank Arena.

Lot C parking will be in the parking lot below the Mitchell Burford Science and Technology Building. Residential Students will have access into Lot C with their hang tags. The public can also park in this lot for $12. Parking at the Bill Jones athletic complex will be unavailable. However, this lot is available as a drop off area near the arena.

Limited handicap parking will be available in front of the CB&S Bank Arena ticket office.

NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama concluded a two-game roadtrip in Jacksonville with wins over North Florida and Jacksonville on Jan. 15 and 17. The Lions overcame a defensive battle against the Ospreys to open the trip with a 56-54 victory. UNA won its third-straight game with a hard-fought 83-79 road triumph over the Dolphins. 37 points from senior Alexsandra Alvarado and a go-ahead three pointer from freshman Gabby Jackson with 14 seconds left sealed the win over Jacksonville.

ALL ALLEY, ALL THE TIME: Alvarado exploded for a record outing against Jacksonville with 37 points vs. the Dolphins. She set a Division I program record in single-game scoring, and she also set a Division I program record with 13 free-throws made. Alvarado shot 55.5 percent from the field (10-18), 50 percent from three (4-8) and stuffed the stat sheet with four assists, three rebounds, three steals and career-high three blocks.

GABBY GOES BACK TO BACK: Jackson earned her second-straight Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The Kansas City, Mo. native averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while helping North Alabama go unbeaten in bouts at North Florida and Jacksonville. She nabbed her second career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Dolphins.

SCOUTING UNA: The Lions’ offense is led by a 39.8 percent shooting percentage. UNA has a slight advantage against opponents in shooting percentage – limiting opponents to 38.4 percent shooting. The team additionally holds advantages in rebounding (652-650) with a significant advantage in assists (233-183). North Alabama also paces teams in offensive rebounding (209-198) and blocks (61-55).

SCOUTING QUEENS: The Royals are 7-10 overall with a 1-5 ASUN record. Queens looks to get back in the win column after suffering setbacks against Stetson and FGCU last time out. The Royals have three double-digit scorers, led by Brenae Jones-Grant (11.8 PPG), Ana Barreto (10.1) and Jermany Mapp. Jones-Grant is tied for 13th in conference scoring to go with ranking fifth in rebounding (7.4 per game). The head coach for Queens is Jen Brown in her fifth season.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama leads 3-1 against Queens in the all-time series. The Lions and Royals split two meetings in 2024-25 with UNA taking an 87-62 home win on Jan. 30, 2025.

SCOUTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS: The Sugar Bears enter the weekend with a 10-8 record while 3-3 in conference play. Central Arkansas looks to continue its winning ways after taking a 79-72 victory at North Florida on Jan. 17. The Sugar Bears are one of the better defensive teams in the conference, ranking first in opponent field-goal percentage (34.3 percent) and second in total defense (59.6 PPG). Shae Littleford is fifth in the ASUN in scoring at 14.4 PPG. Tony Kemper leads Central Arkansas in his third season.

SERIES HISTORY: The Lions and Sugar Bears meet for the 16th all-time matchup. Central Arkansas leads 10-5, but UNA was victorious in a 66-56 win last time out on March 1, 2025.

RIGHT UP HER ALLEY: Alvarado sports a team-leading 12.3 points per game. She is also UNA’s leader in assists (44), three-pointers made (34) and steals (24). Alvarado is fifth in the ASUN in three-pointers made per game (two per game), tied for 11th in scoring and tied for 12th in assists per game (2.6). Defensively, Alvarado is tied for 12th in steals per game (1.4).

SOFIA SHINES: Ceppellotti is second on the team with 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. The sophomore is tied for 13th in rebounding, tied for 19th in three-pointers made per game (1.3) and tied for 20th in scoring in the ASUN.

GABBY GETS IT!: Jackson is the team leader in total rebounds with 108 for a 6.4 average. She has had at least seven rebounds in eight games this season with a high 13 at Tennessee State on Nov. 19. The Kansas City, Mo. native is 11th in the ASUN in rebounds per game.

BUKKY BUCKETS: Graduate Bukky Akinsola has shown veteran leadership in multiple parts of the game. Averaging 7.5 points per game, Akinsola has made her mark in the playmaking and defense category. She’s second in total assists (39) and tied for second in steals (17).

VENLA THE VERSATILE: Sophomore Venla Ulander has been making strides in her first season of action for UNA. She secured her first career double-double on Dec. 7, 2025, with 21 points with 10 rebounds against Samford.

NOTHING EASY: North Alabama gets it done on the defensive end with four players ranked in the ASUN’s blocked shots leaderboard. Senior India Howard ranks eighth at one per game while Ceppellotti is tied for 15th at 0.7. Junior Katie Criswell is tied for 20th with 0.6 per game, and senior Jazzy Klinge is tied for 23rd at 0.5.
