STATEN ISLAND (WABC) — A Staten Island family did everything they could to be ready for their newborn son, but when they got ghosted from a store, they turned to 7 On Your Side to help get a refund.

Joseph and Santina Persichetti wanted a nursery ready to go in their Staten Island home when their new baby, Anthony, was born.

By the time he entered the world at 6 lbs. 11 oz., Mom and Dad wanted everything to be perfect.

But when Anthony was born, Joe and Santina Persichetti’s dream nursery had nothing.

“We have no crib, no dresser,” Santina said. “I was angry, really angry, and sad. Because I knew we would have no furniture for him.”

Their 18-month-old was moving into his big boy room, so the expectant couple ordered a brand-new bedroom set from Posh Baby and Teen on Veteran’s Boulevard in Staten Island.

Joseph said, “The total for the furniture was just over $6,000.”

They paid for everything last Memorial Day weekend.

A deposit of $500, then an additional $5,500, all paid in cash.

The furniture was supposed to be delivered on September 15th, but it wasn’t.

“I was on guard and when nothing showed up the next day, the phone was shut off,” he said.

When 7 On Your Side went to check the store, everything was emptied out and the front door was padlocked.

“There was no address for that new location and no way to get in touch with anybody,” Joseph said.

Santina added, “It was hard for me to swallow that as a pregnant woman. I cried a number of times about the situation.”

To make matters worse, they were told when they called the manufacturer directly.

“The order was never placed, and they said they don’t have your order!” Joseph said.

“It was disappointing and infuriating that was taken from myself and my boys,” Santina said.

“I don’t know how people like that sleep at night, really don’t,” Joseph said.

We didn’t either, so we tracked down the owners of Posh Baby, requesting a full refund. Shortly after, Joseph got a phone call that he recorded.

“Someone calls me who sounds very similar to the owner of the store and says he is someone else confirming we are in contact with the DA’s office,” he said.

The Persichettis had called the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office.

The same person Joe talked to responded to 7 On Your Side and identified himself as the financial advisor for Posh Baby and Teen and said he would issue a full refund.

It took a few months, but eventually someone from this closed furniture store delivered a check to the District Attorney.

The store representative apologized and blamed slow business, internet issues and a mix-up with the order for the delay.

“I’m just so glad we can finally get the furniture for him,” Santina said.
