Police are searching for a gunman after man was shot to death in the Bronx on Wednesday.
Officials say a 19-year-old man, identified as Jahmir Turner, was shot in the back in front of 3685 Secor Ave. in the Eastchester section around 5:40 p.m.
A source told Eyewitness News that says Turner was shot while he was alone, about a seven-minute walk away from his house.
He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting happened on a quiet block made of mostly private houses. It’s eerily quiet under the elevated tracks where there’s some ongoing construction, and where the suspect seemed to catch the victim, with no one else around.
The nearest activity is a car dealership around the bend on Boston Road.
Eastchester resident Suzanne Rochester said she hasn’t seen a deadly shooting like this happen on Secor Avenue in 60 years.
“It’s a fairly quiet neighborhood,” she said. “We don’t have huge crime. It’s busy, but not usually violent.”
Resident Shanua Rodriguez said she heard more than two gunshots ring out while she had some company over.
“It didn’t sound close, but it didn’t sound too far away,” she said. “But we were just in conversation and I was just like, ‘wait a minute, did you guys hear something?’ And they were like, ‘yeah, I thought I heard something.’ And I was like, ‘well that doesn’t happen over here. So what is that?'”
The crime scene unit huddled around cones appearing to mark the shell casings.
Police seemed to take notice of the area around a plastic bag on the ground as they investigated into the night.
They are looking for a male wearing all black that fled on foot towards Boston Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
