Police said Thursday they have two people in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a Bronx teenager on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the NYPD, 19-year-old Jahmir Turner was shot in his back around 5:40 p.m. outside a home on Secor Avenue near Conner Street in Edenwald. First responders took him to Jacobi Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Officials said Turner lived less than a half-mile from where he was shot and detectives are still investigating the motive for the shooting.
He is the first teen killed by gun violence in New York City so far this year, NYPD data shows. Shootings claimed the lives of 25 teens citywide in 2025, according to police reports compiled by Gothamist.
NYPD data shows Turner’s death is also this year’s first homicide in the 47th Precinct, which covers Edenwald, Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Olinville and Fishbay. Thirteen homicides were reported in the precinct last year, an increase from eight the year prior.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
