An Upstate New York woman has been arrested on stolen vehicle and fugitive charges.
Dakota Root, 24, of Lyons, N.Y., is accused of stealing a 2021 Nissan Rogue in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. New York State Police said they were notified Monday of an active out-of-state warrant and that she was believed to be operating the stolen SUV in Wayne County.
Troopers said they located Root and the stolen vehicle at a residence in the village of Newark after an investigation. Root admitted to operating the vehicle and was found to be in possession of the vehicle key, according to state police.
The vehicle was recovered and secured.
State Police said Wednesday that Root was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the 3rd degree (D felony) and fugitive from justice based on the Pennsylvania warrant.
She was processed by NYS Police in Lyons and transported to the Wayne County Jail for CAP arraignment.
Police did not release additional details.
Lyons and Newark are in Wayne County, approximately 100 miles north of Tioga County in Pennsylvania and 35 miles east of Rochester, N.Y.
