NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The impending snowstorm heading towards the East Coast could bring as much as a foot of snow to the New York City area.

The cross-country winter storm might make the tri-state area a winter wonderland, with some areas north of New York City seeing a possible 15 inches of snow in higher elevation areas, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

Long Island and New Jersey could see anything between 4 and 10 inches of snow.

When will the snow hit New York City?

The timeline of when the snowstorm will come to New York City is dependent on the speed and track of the storm.

Saturday temperatures will be dangerously cold in the teens as the storm system approaches, with cloud coverage increasing throughout the day.

The snow is expected to begin to fall on Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The storm may not let up until Monday afternoon.
