NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — It may not be the $10 bill you got as a kid to shovel your neighbor’s driveway after a big snowstorm, but how about $20 per hour from the City of New York?

The Department of Sanitation has opened registration for appointments to become an emergency snow shoveler as the winter storm approaches New York City.

New York City could see up to 10 inches of snow, so even the plows will need some assistance where they can get it. Shovelers will clear snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and other public areas.

Pay starts at $19.14 per hour for snow shovelers and increases to $28.71 per hour after the first 40 hours worked in a week.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

Eligible to work in the United States

Able to perform heavy physical labor

Two small photos (1-1/2 inch square)

Two original forms of ID, plus copies
