The Big Island Intersholastic Federation (BIIF) winter sports season continued Monday with soccer playoffs and basketball matchups. The season continues today with the BIIF Division I Girls Soccer Championship and more hoops games.

Soccer

Waiakea and Hilo girls soccer advanced to this afternoon’s BIIF DI championship after shutout wins. The Lady Warriors beat Kealakehe 4-0 at home, while the Vik Queens won 2-0 on their home pitch. Hilo improved to 6-3-0, while Kona fell to 4-4-1. Waiakea elevated to an impressive 7-1-1, while the Lady Waveriders dropped to 2-6-0.

The crosstown rivalry between the two Hilo schools will serve as the second matchup this season. On Jan. 12, the Lady Warriors beat the Vik Queens 4-0. Waiakea has a 43-4 goal differential this season, one of the best on the island. Hilo has a 39-11 scoring differential.

Hoops

Kamehameha-Hawaii boys basketball won its fourth straight game in dominant fashion, routing Kealakehe 86-39 in Kea‘au. It was the second time the Warriors bested the Waveriders in 2025-26.

Kolten Tabuyo-Kahele led KSH with a game-high 20 points with six 3s, followed by teammate Kawohi Huihui with 18, Davedon Cabreros with 11 and Kaikuakea Kahana-Rowe with 10. Huihui leads the 12-6 Warriors at 17.2 points per game this season, while KSH averages 58 points per game as a team.

Noah Quebral led Kealakehe with 17 points, while teammate Kaimana Heu-Duarte had seven. The ‘Riders, now 1-12, average nearly 43 points per game against the BIIF.

The Warriors will be back in action against Waiakea on Friday at home. When the two teams last met last month, KSH won 66-23.

Kealakehe will rematch Konawaena on Saturday at home. The ‘Riders lost 69-39 to the green and white when they matched up last week in Kealakekua.

The KSH girls wrapped up their regular season with a sixth straight win — routing Ka‘u 57-37 in Pahala to finish 12-7 heading into island playoffs. The Lady Warriors’ next matchup is to be determined as of Tuesday afternoon.

Shailan Benevides, who leads KSH with 11.4 points per game, scored a game-high 18 points. Teammates Mya Wong and Peyton Kalai each scored 10. The Lady Warriors average nearly 39 points per game against the BIIF this season.

The Lady Trojans, who dropped to 1-8, were spearheaded by Jaylee Navarro and Shaylie Martinez, who each scored 13.

Ka‘u next hosts Kohala on Friday night in Pahala.

The Waiakea girls won their sixth consecutive game — this time 44-27 over Honoka‘a at home to elevate to 16-1 overall. The Lady Dragons dropped to 2-9.

Lady Warriors star Bryia Carenio scored a season-high 29 points, while teammates Tesziah Towata, Hayden Omoto and Haylee Toomey combined for 15. Waiakea averages over 47 points per game.

Ava Tabucbuc and Adehza Torres combined for 15 points to lead Honoka‘a. The Lady Dragons average under 28 points per game.

Both teams will return to action tonight, with Waiakea hosting Hilo and the Lady Dragons traveling to Waimea to take on Ka Makani. See Thursday’s paper to read coverage.

The Konawaena boys won their second straight game after a 42-38 road victory over Kea‘au. Freshman phenom Nainoa Galletes led the Wildcats with 10 points, while William Kirklin led the Cougars with 18.

Kona (9-11 overall), averaging 54.4 points per game against the BIIF, will host Honoka‘a on Thursday night inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium.

Kea‘au (5-6 overall) next goes to Hilo High to take on the Vikings on Friday. When the two schools last met, Hilo won 53-44.
