RIDGE, N.Y. (NEWS 12 LONG ISLAND) – Although it is common to find bucks inside a bank, it’s not usually the ones on four legs.
In New York State, a buck of the animal kind made its way into Webster Bank in Ridge.
Suffolk Police said the animal crashed through the glass at the branch on Middle Country Road on Sunday. The deer’s actions also triggered the burglary alarm.
“Very crazy. I go to this bank at least two or three times a month,” Ridge resident Daisy Evans said.
Police bodycam video shows the deer frantically trying to escape on its own, leaving a mess in the process.
“He broke the one window and trampled on some other stuff,” Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said.
Responding officers said they were able to safely lasso the deer and guide him to freedom, which Catalina said took a while.
“So I think they did a phenomenal job,” he said.
The bank was closed at the time the deer broke into it, and many people said they were stunned to hear about the break-in.
The bank has been reopened after the mess was cleaned up.
